Integrations

Integration settings connect FormBuilder with third-party services for automatic data synchronization and marketing automation. Currently the Mailchimp email marketing platform is supported.

Mailchimp

Mailchimp is a popular email marketing platform worldwide. By integrating Mailchimp, form submissions automatically sync user information into your Mailchimp Audience (subscriber list), making it easy to send marketing emails and newsletters afterwards.

Enable Mailchimp

When on, form submissions sync automatically to your configured Mailchimp account.

Connection

Configure the connection to the Mailchimp account.

API Key

Enter the Mailchimp API Key.

Getting the API Key

  1. Log in to Mailchimp
  2. Go to Account → Extras → API keys
  3. Click Create A Key to create a new API Key
  4. Copy the generated API Key and enter it here

Test Connection

Click this button to test whether the API Key is valid. On a successful connection, the Mailchimp account name is displayed (e.g. Connected successfully as DNNGo).

Test the Connection First

After entering the API Key, click Test Connection first to confirm the connection succeeds before configuring the Audience and field mappings below.

Audience

Select the Mailchimp Audience to sync to.

Audience

Select the target Audience from the drop-down list. The drop-down list is empty by default; click Refresh Audiences below to load it from Mailchimp first.

What Is an Audience

An Audience is the main database in Mailchimp that stores and manages all contacts (subscribers). On submission, the user is added to the selected Audience, and you can later send them marketing emails in Mailchimp.

Refresh Audiences

Click this button to load the list of all Audiences from the Mailchimp account. Once loaded, you can select from the drop-down list above.

Field Mappings

Map the Mailchimp Audience fields to the fields in the FormBuilder form. On submission, the user-entered data writes to the corresponding Mailchimp fields per the mapping.

Each mapping item consists of two parts:

PartDescription
Left side (small gray text)The Mailchimp field's merge tag (e.g. email, birthday, text, phone)
Right side drop-downSelect the corresponding field from the current form's elements (displayed in the Label (Unique Name) format)

Mappable Fields

Mailchimp FieldMerge TagDescription
Email Address *emailEmail address (required, must be mapped to a form field)
BirthdaybirthdayBirthday
CompanytextCompany
First NametextFirst name
Last NametextLast name
Phone NumberphonePhone number

Mapping Notes

  • Email Address is required and must be mapped to an email field in the form
  • The other fields are optional; map them as needed
  • The drop-down list shows all submittable elements in the current form, in the format Label (Unique Name)
  • Click Refresh Fields to refresh the field list (use this when form elements have changed)

Date Format Requirements

When the Mailchimp field type is birthday or date, it can only be mapped to a Date element in the form. If the date format does not match, a warning appears:

Format mismatch. Please set the date field format to MM/DD in the form designer. Current: YYYY-MM-DD

Adjust the format of the Date element in the form designer as prompted to match the format required by Mailchimp.

Options

Tags

Add tags to subscribers synced to Mailchimp via this form. Separate multiple tags with commas, e.g. tag1, tag2, tag3.

Purpose of Tags

Tags categorize subscribers in the Mailchimp Audience. For example, you can tag them as contact-form or newsletter-signup, making it easy to filter by tag later in Mailchimp and send targeted emails.
